Society of St. Vincent de Paul
Inspired by the vision of St. Vincent de Paul to see Christ in the eyes of the Poor.
Co-Cathedral of St. Thomas More Conference
We are members of one of the largest Catholic lay organizations in the world.
Vincentians realize that many seeking our help are just like us, but due to bad luck that any one of us are vulnerable to, they are now in desperate need of help. A common example is the person who has worked hard their entire life, providing well for the family, but is now suddenly disabled and can no longer work. Their income is now zero, and until they qualify for government assistance they have no income, but the heating, rent, and food bills do not stop coming.

Family home visits have always been the fundamental activity of Vincentians. Our goal is to personally meet the family seeking help, get to know them and understand their situation, determine the best way we can help, and remain in contact with the family throughout their crisis, continuing to help where possible.

To respect the wishes of those who donate to us in support of our works, we do our best to verify the legitimacy of our clients' claims of need before providing any financial assistance.

Volunteers are needed to work in pairs visiting our neighbors in their homes. Home visit teams are made up of Active Members who attend monthly meetings and agree to keep home visit information confidential.

The Ozanam Orientation to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is offered periodically either in Tallahassee or Pensacola. And home visit training is provided by pairing new home visit volunteers with a seasoned team member.

We find that we all learn something new with every opportunity to make a home visit and are able to share our individual insights at conference meetings to everyone's benefit.

Consider becoming a home visit volunteer and part of the core mission of our lay apostolate.

STM Conference Meetings:
Our Conference meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesday each month @6pm in an upstairs religious education classroom at the Co-Cathedral of St. Thomas More Parish Center.

The Church must go out into the streets

€œI prefer a Church which is bruised, hurting and dirty because it has been out on the streets, rather than a Church which is unhealthy from being confined and from clinging to its own security. I do not want a Church concerned with being at the centre and then ends by being caught up in a web of obsessions and procedures.

If something should rightly disturb us and trouble our consciences, it is the fact that so many of our brothers and sisters are living without the strength, light and consolation born of friendship with Jesus Christ, without a community of faith to support them, without meaning and a goal in life.

More than by fear of going astray, my hope is that we will be moved by the fear of remaining shut up within structures which give us a false sense of security, within rules which would make us harsh judges, within habits which make us feel safe, while at our door people are starving and Jesus does not tire of saying to us: €œGive them something to eat€ (Mk 6:37). (49)
